LGTB at school meets Charo Alises, Human Rights lawer

     Charo Vázquez Alises is a very important lawer from Málaga who has worked defending civil and LGTB rights.
     She is the author of Homophobic bullying. Action guide (Marbella Town Hall 2017), co-author of Hate crimes. Practical guide for advocacy (Advocacy foundation 2018), LGTB hate crimes guide (Junta de Andalucía 2019).
     She has trained teachers and mainy others experts on bullying and has taken part in a big account of meetings about this topic. Moreover, she has a never-ending curriculum. For example, responsible of Human rights Commission for the Lawers Association in Málaga, coordinator of the legal assistance service for  Hate crimes victims, Amnesty International activist and...well, we coul be talking till tomorrow about her professional career. However, we want to mention here and to thank her extreme generosity for coming to our school just for free.
     She enjoys talking to students, which is very easy to verify, as they kept in silence while she was talking (and she talked a lot) about the law, about the origin of the Pride Day, about some important LGTB prominent personalities. She clarified concepts, ideas and she did it in the most gentle way.

Our students were absolutely delighted  with her talk.
Many of them had confessed before to ignore the meaning of some concepts we hear every day, such as intersexual or cis. Now they know their meaning. This is the first step to be tolerant and respectful.

LGTB DIAGNOSIS AT SCHOOL

     Before starting working on LGTB, we should know better where do we come from.
     La Rosaleda High School is located in Málaga (Spain). It started its activity in 1947 as a Vocational Training School. However, it has grown quite a lot through the time. In fact, at the present, we are more than 200 staff members and we offer many different educational modalities, including Baccalaureate. Concerning Baccalaureate our students can choose between Science, Social Science or Humanities.
     On the other hand, our students' profile is very varied. The youngest are 15 whereas we have also adult students. We have also different nationalities and many of them have economical difficulties.That's why this kind of projects allow them to discover new realities and opportunities. The reason why we started this project is becausewe want to encourage tolerance and to brake down biases. LGTB discrimination exists at the schools and it is even harder to bear when we are teenagers than when adults.



     However, before starting it is necessary to know which is exactly the current situation in our school. A diagnostic questionnaire has been carried out by the Psychology students among the Baccalaureat ones. They have interviewed a least the half of them and HERE THEY ARE THE RESULTS.
